Fortunately—for me in this instance—my understanding of the French language is very rudimentary, so I stick with the visual.

Despite your understandable prefeence for the visual, I was curious, as I've never come across "square" as a French word before (what we would call a "square" is usually a "place" in French), in this case "Square Jean XXIII". My dictionary tells me it means a "public garden".

"Jean XXIII", of course, is Pope John XXIII of 2nd Vatican Council fame.

Boring... So, OK, let's stick with the visual...

Mike,
See "https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=85322"

I'd never tried to decipher the sign on the right; just accepted its abstract qualities.

Heh, I've walked (and photographed) through there several times, and had no idea what it was called!
