I remember, as a half-starved hitchhiker in Europe in 1971, being treated to some chicken in a Wienerwald in Munich by two lovely American women who had driven me into town from up near Nurnberg. I think these were the same two who asked me if I knew where this town "Ausfahrt" was they kept seeing signs to.
When I was a kid, Wienerwald was in its heydays with their slogan "Heute bleibt die Küche kalt, wir gehen in den Wienerwald" (Today the kitchen will stay cold, we go to the Wienerwald). Only my parents objected to go there...
