In English, they are called convenience stores, but we prefer
the Dutch term nachtwinkel (night store). Makes us smile.

Starý židovský hřbitov

Looking out an upper window of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, at the Old Jewish Cemetery, dating back to the 15th Century. According to the Web site, there are 10,000 tombstones.

Some years ago—I don’t remember how many—I had the idea that, if I saved up all my raw photographic exposures, I might someday find the opportunity to go back through them, to find and refine selected images, as if seeing anew. Sure enough, I was right.

Now with age piling up and slowing me down [I've made it to 74]—but still holding hopes of adventures to come—I am having good fun in rummaging through the past.

2013 was when my body began to deteriorate in earnest. But I was right about the past.

On the month of your birthday. Ikea offers you a free meatball entrée and a slice of cake (and coffee, of course). I very rarely turn down a free meal, especially one with meat and potatoes. Okay, the coffee was weak, and the meatballs very lightly flavored (and I passed on the steamed-to-soggy vegetables) but the price was right.

I was "mustered out" of the Army in May, 1968.

Since my knee replacement surgeries, I have been remembering this picture, taken shortly after I came home (note the Army fatigue shirt) and I finally came across it. That flexibility is all in my past now.
[And no, I am not picking my nose while taking a picture—I do have some standards.]

Việt Nam 1965-1968

Are these Vietnamese paparazzi waiting outside a closed stamp collectors' store, or perhaps the bar next door? I don't remember ever encountering them anywhere in my time there, yet here they are—a fragment in a street scene I photographed back then.

[The word 'paparazzi' only entered the English language with Fellini's 1960 film La Dolce Vita, according to Wikipedia.]
