2004

I took this snapshot of a hosiery display at a department store. As I was doing so, my wife overheard two sales ladies discussing whether to call the police on me. Fortunately, she was able to assure them that I was harmless.

I am wondering now if, in this time of telephone/cameras and ever-so-many people snapping pictures of everything for any or no reason at all, would anyone care?

Maybe? If they looked like you! ;-)

Probably yes, Tyler, if the perpetrator is an older, bearded white male and uses a "real camera" ;)

I'm guessing some might see this bearded gentleman toting his camera as slightly disreputable. Others though might see the photographer as the essence of respectability. My guess is the beard is the crucial visual element. Or, possibly, the beard along with the camera. Hell, I don't know, actually. Though your comment reminded me of a time, a few years ago, when I was in a fancy modern mall on the outskirts of Mexico City. At the time I was there (late, on a Sunday night) it was more or less deserted. And they had this display of armored luxury SUV's. Which conjured up all kinds of images for me of what the potential clients for said vehicles might be like. I had a small camera with me and started to take a picture and suddenly out of nowhere a rather intimidating Security Guard materialized and told me that pictures weren't allowed. When I had the temerity to ask him why they weren't, he suggested I should leave. I finally took the hint and disappeared. Not the same, obviously, but... those experiences stick in one's memory.
