Completely irrelevant, but I happened to look up the French pronunciation of "Reims" yesterday (I was interested in the Douai-Rheims Bible translation, don't ask why) and was very surprised to find it's "Rance". Despite the usual regularity of French pronunciation, their place names are almost as irregular as our British ones.
Thanks, Mike, for the reminder of the correct pronunciation of "Reims". I had forgotten that—it was 16 years ago that I was there—and I had reverted in my memory to the English pronunciation.
