First off, this picture was made twenty years ago, and I cannot remember exactly what my thoughts might have been at that moment. But that is not how I work, or think. I see and respond to a moment without thinking or reflecting—just make a single exposure and move on to the next. Perfect for spontaneous 'street' moments. Words have no place in this practice—it's all visual.
No thinking or talking; just seeing and reacting.
So, yes, Markus, I did 'see' both the broken chair leg and the dog when I took the picture, but no, Mike, I may not have 'seen' it consciously.
Just wish I was back there now, making new pictures.

Perfect, Tyler! The missing leg of the chair provided by the dog... Don't tell me you saw this already in the viewfinder!
Markus,
That is not a question that can ever be asked in polite photographic society! Of course Tyler saw it -- it was there, after all ;)
