Windows and doors are like the faces for buildings, along with the walls they portray the age and character.
This is not something we can see much of in the U.S.A., because we are not nearly so old—and far more prone to tear down and build anew, and that is one of the reasons I delight in visiting Europe (or should I express that in the past tense?)
