I see dining was free here, July '86 to July 2011! (all "donations" to a hospital). Even so, some cutlery would have been great...

Mike,
That picture was taken on 24 October 2011, and each of the gentlemen's plates has a fork resting on it.
So, no penalty.

And I can recommend the "Trattoria Il Bargello" as a very pleasant place to dine in Florence—and it was only a few doors down from our apartment.

Such places are what make Europe European. You should see (but never, ever eat in) the equivalent places that make Britain British. Or maybe you have...

I had a superb-but-simple meal of octopus in the Florentine Mercato Centrale a few years ago that I still think about with pleasure.

Mike,
Sad memory of an Italian dinner in a Scottish restaurant in 1991 and a week or so later, a superb dinner at "Rules" in Covent Garden…reinforcing the lesson my spouse taught me: to only eat the cuisine of a country over which Britain had held dominion.
Otherwise, eat the native cuisine, and that includes American…well, except for our feckless leader.

Now, back to 2011…
